New Five Bedroomed House, Morpeth

New Five Bedroomed House, Morpeth

The Project

Following the demolition of the original house on the site, due to it not meeting the needs of the client, William Kish Architects was tasked with the construction of a new five bedroom house on a sloping plot in Morpeth.

The concept was to set the new home into the hillside to make use of the terrain whilst maximising the space available to create a luxury family home.

To do this we consulted with the client on their exact needs for the property, any particular spatial requirements and also created a number of floorplans and design models, until we got the final plans perfect.

The Results

Our service involved the full design up to Planning and Building Regulation Consents with periodic site visits as requested by the client to ensure progress.

The building stands at three storeys high with a semi-basement garage and includes a gym, cinema room, utility rooms and three spacious guest bedrooms with ensuites.

The first floor contains the main living spaces, making use of the stunning surrounding views including a kitchen, dining room, office, utility rooms and a music room. In addition to this, the building also enjoys ample outdoor space with external south-facing terraces leading from the Living, Dining and Music rooms.

The second floor provides two main bedroom suites and one master suite with ensuite bathrooms and dressing areas, there is also a feature gallery and staircase which leads to the music room.

The low energy-led design of the home is even more impressive. Our design has incorporated the use of air source heat pumps driven by photovoltaic solar panels, underfloor heating, high levels of thermal insulation and solar control glazing.

Due to some poorer site conditions, we also ensured extensive civil engineering works were carried out in order to secure the structure accordingly. From there, the building frame was constructed from timber and clad in stone and brick with a slate roof.

William Kish Architects commenced the design of the home in September 2018 and began work on site the following Summer. However, due to the pandemic work was forced to be put on pause until the easing of lockdown rules. At the time of writing (March 2022) the project is on site at present and due for completion in July 2022.
