Over the next year, William Kish Architects will be working on the construction of a self-build five bedroom home which will be designed and project managed entirely by our team.
The Project
William Kish’s clients are looking to combine traditional design and modern living with the construction of a traditional five bedroom Northumberland Farmstead with classic stone detailing.
Featuring modern facilities and open plan living, the client is looking to also include a garden room which will make an additional design feature of the stunning Northumberland landscape surrounding the property.
Making use of William Kish’s sustainable design ethos, the home will have eco-credentials at its heart, using ground source heat pump technology, photovoltaic array solar panels, on site sewage treatment and a balancing pond for rainwater control.
Being based in the Northumberland countryside means there is wildlife in the area so the home will have protected species ‘wild zones’ on site in order to not disrupt natural habitats around the home
Building work is expected to commence this Summer (2023) and as an additional gift, William Kish made the clients a scaled model so they could visualise their future home.
Update (2025)
This traditional five-bedroom home was completed in autumn 2024, with the family moving in by November. While final touches to the interior and soft landscaping are ongoing, the property is already a warm and welcoming space.
The home was masonry constructed with high levels of insulation and air tightness to minimise the energy footprint. The home is fitted with modern facilities and with open plan living spaces for the whole family to enjoy.
Sustainable design features include a solar array, air source heat pumps, and underfloor heating system throughout.
Additional eco-conscious systems such as an on-site sewage treatment facility and a balancing pond help manage flood risk and ensure long-term environmental responsibility.
